It’s over ten years now when the popular viral video of the Lagos Commander of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corp (NSCDC) linked to “my oga at the top” on an interview with ChannelsTv in respect to the employment scam going on in the organization.
In that interview, the commander, Shem Obafaiye tried to defend the organization by saying that such scams can’t happen in the organization because of the tight procedures in recruiting prospective members. However, the commander couldn’t mention his organization’s website.
One could tell he doesn’t know from his body language and was just fumbling with slight irregular cough and nodding of head. While on today’s interview on ChannelsTv again, he showed up as a retired member of the organization and also stated that his promotion came up after his retirement.
Talking about his experience on that day, he said he went underground not because he was afraid of the press because it didn’t affect his life negatively though a cousin of his made a joke that craving for national recognition also come with a price of receiving national insult.
When asked about the response of his office after his viral video, he said: “there is this dynamics in every organization because organization has its ethics and values, yes the truth is many did not really react negatively, they say this man is more like the David in the Bible who was in the bush pursuing vandals at the pipeline, why must he be the one to come here to tell the website or whatever it is it was uh they didn’t react negatively to me no doubt about that they didn’t react negatively”.
According to him, he knew the website of NSCDC at the time of the interview over ten years ago but wasn’t permitted or authorized to give out such information to the public which was the reason for not mentioning the website that very day.
Going through the interview, he advised that the right person to asked such question should be someone from the headquarters and in administration in Abuja so that the person should be held accountable. Such a person should also be able to talk more about the organization.
On his recent interview, after he was replaced, he didn’t bother about it because it’s a government job however, Mr. Shem excused himself from the errors made during his “oga at the top” viral video by insinuating that he wasn’t supposed to give the interview that day because he was not well prepared.
For those that had printed caps and t-shirts titled “oga at the top” I have nothing against them he said. He went further to explain ‘any other activities’ in employment letters saying it can include many things so one should just pray the tasks given to him/her are the ones he/she can handle.
“After the interview, my commander general asked me to rest for one month before he moved me to Oyo state command”: Shem Obafaiye.
He also added that the interview affected him psychologically because he had never gone through such in life but even at that, he’s no problem with social media moreover, he now has a patent certificate of “oga at the top” issued by the Federal Ministry of Investment and Trade so anyone can be sued for using it without permission.
